KC Local Week has arrived and in true Monday fashion, we’ve got the coffee line up you need to get it going on the right foot. In the true spirit of local week, we took a step off the beaten path to discover 5 Kansas City coffee shops that are a must-try whether you catch them this week or save them for later.
Hi Hat Coffee
Tucked into a beautiful nook in West Plaza, this quirky little shop serves up some delicious Joe while taking you on an adventure like no other. One part ginger bread and two parts gnome house, this teensie hidaway is the perfect spot to get your caffeine fix while enjoying a good patio, creative space and great people.

The Myriad House
Just a short jog from Hi Hat, you could easily hit Myriad House on a nice single-morning coffee tour. Take a drive through Midtown to discover the Myriad House standing beautifully at the corner of 45th and Bell Streets. Not only will you get your coffee fix, you can explore the amazing vintage shop for antique furniture, decor and so much more. Then take your Joe to-go to explore the rest of the area’s truly awesome antique shops.

Downbeat Coffee + Tea
More than the caffeine with wake you up with a quick trip to Downbeat in Volker. Set atop a bright blue house, Downbeat gets your blood pumping with a quick trip up a few stairs to claim your cup. It’s slightly hidden on the building’s west side and requires a little exploration to find the parking entry on the east — but once you’ve discovered the secret combo, you won’t regret your trip, especially if you stop in to catch one of the shop’s live music events.
1200 West 39th Street #2, Kansas City, MO
City Market Coffee House
With a prime spot at the Northwest corner of the City Market square, City Market Coffee House is a favorite addition to a weekend at the Farmer’s Market. Their serve-yourself coffee is perfect for leaving a few bucks to snag your cup on the run. But, if you have the time to spare, their coffee drinks and fresh juices are very much worth the wait. Plus, you simply cannot beat the people watching from the bistro tables parked outside their shop.

Twisted Sisters Coffee Shop
Twisted Sisters is not only great spot to get your coffee fix, it’s also a wonderfully happy place. Sandwiched between some shops on the newly renovated Johnson Drive in Mission, this coffee stop steals the show with an eclectic mix of bright colors, tornados and awesome people. Snag your Joe, smoothie or breakfast and plan to stay and enjoy it for awhile.
